Determine Your Version of Windows

Often when you are looking for computer support, or programs to download, you will need to know which version of Windows you have. You will also need to know whether your system is 32bit or 64bit.

This information is easy to find if you know where to look.

Go to Start,Computer and select System Properties in the upper left-hand corner.

The Computer window

You should now see the System Properties window.

The System Properties window

At the top you can see, under Windows edition, this computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium. Underneath that it states that Service Pack 1 is installed.

The next group of details tells you the type of CPU and how much RAM is installed. More importantly, underneath that you will find your system type. In this case it is a 64-bit Operating System.

This should be all the information you need for most circumstances.

I will expand this page soon to include more details on finding system information.
